Caitlin's First Birthday Week
Monday was Caitlin's birthday!! 1 yeah! We went to gymnastics and then home to get ready for the party. The family came over at 5:30 and we ate dinner. Caitlin woke up from her nap fussy and didn't want to eat anything. We put her cake in front of her and she touched it one time and then screamed. It was so much stimulation she couldn't handle it. I tried to put her and the cake on the floor but she still cried. So we opened presents. Caitlin enjoyed opening one tissue bag and then screamed to be held the rest of the time. Sydney and Evie helped open the rest of presents. Caitlin was so exhausted she fell asleep at 7 while family was still here eating cake. The next morning she played with all her new toys. Dad and Shelley bought her a new chair, mom and Jim gave her a bead table. She got 2 pairs of pedipeds from Andrea and Sandy and Johnny. Jessie gave her a cabbage patch baby doll (so she won't take Sydney's now) and Jevin and Melissa gave her a name piggy bank and a bathing suit and coverup with her monogrammed C (and matching for Sydney).
Wednesday we went to Bloodworth's for Caitlin's 12 mon. pictures. Shelley met us there to help with the girls. Caitlin wouldn't stand up and cried to be held. After 45 minutes of trying, we decided to come back next week and go to lunch. We met dad and Andrea and Evie at ChickFilA. Andrea took the girls into the playhouse and climbed all the way up in the tunnel.
Thursday we took Sydney to school and then went to Caitlin's 12 mon. appt. with Dr. Smeltzer. She weighs 19.9 lbs and is 29 inches long. She is in the 47% for height and 25% for weight. She didn't enjoy the doc checking her out and all the shots. We discussed her separation anxiety with mama and always wanting to be held. He said this peaks from 12-14 months so hopefully this phase will pass soon.
Friday Andrey and her kids came over. Madeleine and Sydney like playing alone upstairs and tells us moms they need "privacy." They are so cute together and love holding hands. We learned that board and card games are great with parents but kids aren't ready to play together yet. The sharing and taking turns isn't quite working out, but when mommy, daddy and Sydney play there is no concern. Sydney wants to tell her friends how to play but when they don't understand and don't cooperate with her demands, both girls throw a fit. This happened with Maya and Lena too. So now we know to wait a couple more months. Matt came home early from work so I could got to the Encore Consignment Sale. I bought a rocking horse and a push car for Caitlin and some great spring clothes. Audrey, Andrea and I went out to dinner afterwards. It was nice to have a conversation with no kiddos.
Saturday Matt dropped Caitlin off at mom's and took Sydney back to the Adventure Science Center. They loved it! I went to Melissa Wyatt's Sip N See for Eli. That night we met Katy and Tim and Presley, Tamara and Mark at Sperry's for dinner. Caitlin did great and never screamed. Sydney had one melt down but it was after sitting for an hour. Presley and Sydney loved going to the bathroom together and of course the salad bar!
Sunday we went to church and then relaxed the rest of the day. Potty training is great. She hasn't had any accidents and I have learned when to give her liquids and when she probably needs to go. She goes before we leave and then usually doesn't need to go out in public for a while. Rule of thumb-when mama goes, Sydney goes. No exceptions.
