Week of Jan. 19th

Monday was MLK day so the girls were at mom's house. I was home sick so I picked them up late that afternoon.
Tuesday Sydney went to school. Sandy came out to sit with Caitlin while I went to the preschool for a BookClub. We read "Raising Respectful Kids in a Disrespectful World"...great read. When we come home from school Caitlin takes her afternoon nap and Sydney and I play playdoh. She likes to make birthday cakes, put candles on and sing to each family member and friend stuffed animals. She is into her elephant and babies right now. She also enjoys pretend talking on the phone. She says "Hello how you doin' mmmm I see I see"
Thursday Matt took Sydney to school for "Donuts with Daddy." He played in the kitchen and played puzzles with her. She liked showing him where she sleeps and named all the kids. She is into counting backwards 10-1 blastoff! She loves her abcs now and is into "finding" letters. At every stop sign she spells S-T-O-P. It never gets old.
Friday we started potty training! Day 1...7:45 poop accident on the dining room rug....8:15 poop accident on our bathroom rug. But it was improvement because Sydney kept saying "almost in the potty." The third time she made it! Her pee is no problem. She enjoys the potty so we like to go to the bathroom every 10 minutes...literally! Caitlin doesn't enjoy sitting in there so Matt took the hinges off the door so now Caitlin can roam while Sydney is waiting and waiting on the potty. She was excited to wear her big girl panties, Elmo and Mickey Mouse, and all weekend we have sang songs and read books in the bathroom. She loves the potty. When she poops, she gets 2 M&Ms but the poop has to go in the potty. By Sunday she wasn't going as often, but definitely knew when she needed to. She still wears a diaper at naptime and bedtime because sometimes she wakes in the morning with a poop...that has been going on since she was 6mon. old. But she isn't scared of the potty or the poop. What we have noticed is that she doesn't go in timeout as often because we don't have the changing diaper battle. This is what I have learned this weekend...Don't go out and buy training potty. Just buy the top for the big potty. 2. Get a step stool that is tall enough for her to reach the faucet so she can wash her hands as often as possible. 3. Get another step stool so she can go to potty by herself so she can have "privacy." 4. Have a basket of books because you get extremely bored sitting and 5. Only let her use toilet paper and flush when she actually puts something in the potty.
Since we were in the house all weekend we decided to change up Caitlin's schedule too. We dropped her 4:00 milk feeding and pushed her to 5:30 and eating dinner at 6. It is so nice...we all eat at the same time, play, bath and they are asleep by 8. Big News: Sunday night Caitlin started climbing stairs. We have been practicing for some time and today it just clicked. Now that is all she wants to do...thank goodness for gates. She is eating most of what we eat. She still likes to be fed from a spoon but I am ok with that. She is eating a waffle and baby yogurt in the morning, some baby food and some of my sandwich for lunch and then a #3 jar and what we eat for dinner. She now has 3 teeth on the bottom and her middle top are coming in. Her 2 little fangs on top are precious.
