Week of May 17th
Monday was Sydney's 4year appt. with Dr. Smeltzer. She is 40.77 inches (74%) and 38 lbs (74%). I was impressed that she could have a conversation with him. He asked questions and she elaborated with answers. At the end the nurse had to prick her finger. She got a little scared and hid her hands behind her. When I asked her what color her blood was, she stuck out her finger and said, "Let's check." The nurse pricked her finger and she was amazed it was red. "I thought it was blue like my veins." After naps playgroup was at Rebecca's. Sydney got stung 3x by a wasp so she wasn't too happy. Those gel boo boo patches are great for kids.
Tuesday I took the girls to Adventure Science Center. I was worried when we pulled up and saw 8 school buses, but the girls loved it. We left when they got hungry and had lunch in the car.
Wednesday we took food to KC and her new baby. We stopped by Granny White Park to play.
Thursday we blew up balloons and cleaned house for the family party. That night the family came over for dinner and birthday cake. Matt worked all week on putting together the playground set. His dad, Jevin and Davy came over to help and it was done by Thursday. Sydney called it her treehouse and begged to camp out. It was our first party in the new house. Sydney opened her presents in the den and there was plenty of room for people to sit and watch. I just love our new home!
Friday we went shopping for Madeleine's birthday present. Sydney picked out princess stuff. Turned out that is what Mad gave Sydney for her birthday present too.
Saturday was Sydney's birthday party at 9am. We did it early because of the heat and it turned out to be a gorgeous day. About 15 kids showed up and they went straight for the jumpy and the playground set. We also had the water table out and all the riding toys. There was plenty of space and plenty of stuff to do. We hid golden plastic coins in the grass so the kids had a coin hunt. When we brought the cake out, Sydney asked where her 2 friends were from school, Aria and Callie...she had saved them a seat. I told her they were sick and couldn't come. She needed about 5 minutes to cope and then felt better. It was hard as a parent to watch her feel sad, but I know there will be many more moments. After the party we talked about all the kids who did come. She opened her presents and played with every toy. She categorizes things. It took about an hour to categorize the presents...by color, by object, by size. After naps we went to Madeleine's party at My Gym. It is a great party place for age 3-5. We had such a great experience we might do that for Caitlin's 3rd birthday party. When we left the party we stopped by Granny White Park. They were exhausted that night. Sydney said her happy moment was having a birthday party the same day as Madeleine's party and her sad moment was not seeing Aria.
Sunday they sang to Sydney at children's worship. After naps we walked down to our neighbor's house who had a picnic concert. Sydney had a moment because the bugs and the heat, but then we all enjoyed it. Our neighbors are interested and extremely kind. We haven't found any young kids yet, but will keep our fingers crossed.
